What Is Doppler Wind Lidar

Doppler wind Lidar refers to "weather Lidar" that uses the Doppler effect to measure the radial movement of particles in the atmosphere relative to the observer. It can measure horizontal wind, vertical motion, turbulence and wind shear at various heights, and can also monitor dangerous weather phenomena such as downdrafts, tornadoes, and thunderstorms. The acoustic Doppler wind Lidar installed at the airport can measure the vertical distribution of wind direction and wind speed below 1000m altitude; Microwave Doppler wind Lidar can measure wind field structures below 500m altitude. Pulsed Doppler lidar mounted on an airplane to detect the speed of air currents in a strong storm.
